Hello Tashi!!!

posted on: Wednesday, Jul. 30, 2008

Danny and I came home a bit late Wednesday evening after having dinner in Robinson's Galleria. It was terrific because on the way home DJ Patty (Jam88.3) played Regina Spektor's "The Call" on the radio and dedicated to me hehehe. Beautiful way to start "labour day". Around 4am, I had blood. I called the doctor, and she said rush to the hospital. We got there at about 5am. Initially the resident doctor couldn't find a reason to admit me yet.. she said I probably needed to walk around more. But in the middle of testing, my water broke! I was only dillating at 3cm that time. Danny and I prayed for the baby's safety and I was instantly in the labour room on IV. Our doctor came in around 8am and at that time she said I was dillating at 5cm. The pain! She sent Danny to eat breakfast and took care of me giving me something to make me 'groggy' that would help me forget about the pain. The anaestheologist came in and every nurse seemed to be on alert for my case. I WAS NOT ALLOWED EPIDURALS because of my spinal condition. (stainless steel in my back). But thank God at about 9am, I was dillating at 7cm! By 11am, I was ready to push and then started the most painful experience I have ever felt. I asked to doctors for some sort of sedative. She said 'NO! You need to PUSH!'... oh no...!!

For over one and a half hours I was pushing and pushing. With every exhausting push, Tashi would go down a bit, but then go back up a bit. The doctors were frustated. I was frustrated. I shouted "CS na!.. and even Tashi labas ka na!!!" Cried and cried.. but had to hold my tears as screaming would zap my energy.

The doctor was anticipating CS and made an ultimatum that if the baby doesn't come out by 12.30pm she would cut me. Danny was by side praying. (and taking clueless photos). But thank you so so so much for all your prayers. After the ultimatum, I made a final prayerful push... and HELLO TASHI!!!!

I was instantly knocked out after the experiene. There was a "take-2" to this episode with my placenta being removed, but only at this point did the doctors apply any sort of sedation.

Tashi came out. Healthy baby boy. He cried after Danny cut the cord.

3 days in the hospital and now we're finally home.

Thanks to everyone who prayed for me and my baby. Thanks also to all who dropped by to visit. And especially thank you to Dennis Ogrimen for the high-quality shots you took of Tashi in the nursery.
